Italy to coordinate with partners, allies over foreign fighters - FM

ROME, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi called Tuesday for coordination with European and allied countries over the way to deal with their citizens who fought with so-called Islamic State (IS) group, and were captured by US forces.
He was reacting to US demands that European countries bring back their nationals who fought with IS.
European foreign fighters "is a new issue and the government did not discuss it," Milanesi was quoted by Italian TV channels as saying from Brussels, where he was participating in EU foreign ministers' meetings.
"We will coordinate over this issue with our partners and allies in the region," he said.
Milanesi said the foreign fighters' issue required consultations with the judiciary, so he would raise the issue at a cabinet meeting when he returned to Rome. (end) mn.bs
