Kuwaiti lawmakers tout outcome of European tour

ROME, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Members of the Kuwaiti parliamentary friendship group have lauded the outcome of their visits to Czech and Italy.
The visits were successful by all standards, head of the group MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri told KUNA Sunday.
He pointed out that the tour was a chance to engage in a dialogue with Czech and Italian lawmakers over key issues, such cementing bilateral economic and commercial relations, Kuwait's view of regional developments, and Kuwait's bid for Schengen visa waiver.
The Italian and Czech peers have vowed to support Kuwait's Schengen bid and to encourage their respective governments to accelerate the bid handling procedures, he said.
Meanwhile, MP Usama Al-Shaheen stated that they had raised the important issues for both citizenry and homeland during their meetings with Czech and Italian counterparts.
The Schengen bid and the services and facilities offered to Kuwaiti patients and their families in both countries were top on the agendas, he told KUNA.
He argued that the tour also allowed them to explain Kuwait's stances of different regional and international issues, particularly the Palestinian causes as well as Kuwait's leading role in promoting dialogue, tolerance and peaceful co-existence and helping needy people worldwide.
For his part, MP Abdulwahab Al-Babtain said they had also tackled malicious attempts to link Islam to terrorism.
There was a consensus among all parties that terrorism should not be linked to a certain religion, he said. (end) mn.ibi
