Pompeo, WFP chief discuss humanitarian situation in Yemen, Venezuela

WASHINGTON, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with UN World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director David Beasley, during which the humanitarian situations in Yemen and Venezuela were discussed, it was announced late Saturday.
State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a statement that Pompeo and Beasley emphasized "the need for a political agreement that ends the conflict and brings peace, prosperity, and security to Yemen." They also discussed "ongoing US-WFP cooperation to relieve Yemen's dire humanitarian situation, especially increased food security needs." Furthermore, the statement noted Pompeo and the WFP chief also discussed "the situation in Venezuela and the difficult humanitarian circumstances forcing millions of Venezuelans to flee their country in search of basic necessities including food and medicine".
