Kuwait to implement anti-corruption strategy

KUWAIT, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- Minister of Justice Fahad Al-Afasi briefed the cabinet Monday about a five-year anti-corruption strategy based on rule of law and complete transparency.
Al-Afasi, also Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs, said the 2019-24 strategy, the first of its kind in Kuwait, included four major objectives divided into 13 priorities which were distributed over 47 initiatives.
He said the strategy, honoring New Kuwait Vision, aimed at complying with UN's anti-corruption agreement in order to achieve best sustainable development indicators, a government statement said.
His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who chaired the cabinet meeting, assigned all government departments to implement the strategy.
Meanwhile, the cabinet assigned Ministry of Information to launch a campaign aimed at shedding light on history of Kuwait Flag and how to respect the flag as a national symbol.
They said all government departments should hoist Kuwait Flag on their buildings and replace the damaged flags, as well as instructing public and private schools to raise the flag and conduct the morning flag ceremonies.
The cabinet also assigned Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to study a five-year strategy for the establishment of centers for the memorization of Holy Quran nationwidee.
The government executives approved the 2019-20 State budget which included KD 22.5 billion expenditures and USD 16.4 billion revenues.
On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed the cabinet about his participation in the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Beirut, Lebanon, as a representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
He talked about His Highness the Amir's initiative to launch a USD 200 million fund for support technology and digital economy, and that Kuwait pledged USD 50 million to the fund, which would be managed by Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.
The cabinet expressed gratitude for His Highness the Amir for his initiative.
The cabinet, however, assigned Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth supervise Kuwait Anti-Doping Agency, and approved an air transport agreement with Canada. (end) bs
