CAIRO, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Muslim scholars partaking in the 29th conference of the Cairo-based Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs have stated that countries' interests are part of religion objectives.
In their final communique, read out by the Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs Mokhtar Jumaa, the scholars clarified that preserving countries is one of the prime objectives of the religion.
They also called for inculcating the citizenship concept in the Muslim states.
Efforts were needed to educate people about the importance of values such as citizenship, tolerance, peaceful co-existence, dialogue and community serving, they said.
They reiterated the call for overhauling the religious discourse and building the capacity of preachers to help them counter extremist ideas and people.
The two-day conference has attracted a large number of scholars and preachers from across the Muslim world. (end) ms.rg.ibi
