Pipeline blast kills 66 people in Mexico

WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- At least 66 people were killed in Tlahuelilpan, Mexico after a ruptured gas pipeline exploded late Friday, according to governor of Hidalgo Omar Fayad.
He noted that at least 76 others were injured in the blasts which occurred about 120 kilometers north of Mexico City.
Pemex, the state oil company launched an investigation into the cause of the blast. It is speculated that the explosion occurred because of illegal taps in the pipeline made in order to steal gasoline.
Nearby residents have been evacuated. (end) ak.mt
