Turkey intends to open four consulates in Iraq

ANKARA, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Turkey plans to reactivate its consulates in Basra and Mosul and open two consulates in Kirkuk and Najaf provinces, said Spokesman of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Hami Aksoi on Friday.
At a press conference, the spokesman said that efforts were being made for the sake of opening the Ovakoy border crossing with Iraq, saying opening of such crossing would lead to consolidation of bilateral trade.
He asserted his country's keenness to bolster its ties with Iraq, recalling Turkey's pledge to offer USD five billions for the reconstruction of Iraq.
Regarding US sanctions on Iran, he said that that his country believes that such sanctions were not right, adding that sanctions would hurt the Iranian people and stability of the region. (end) rs.tg
