Today in Kuwait's history

KUWAIT, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- 1963 -- Kuwait Radio broadcast live the first soccer match, pitting Kuwait against Jordan.
1964 -- Mohammad Ahmad Al-Hamad was named the first Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq, serving in the post till November 14, 1971.
2003 -- Heritage Vilage, Heavenly Dome and Al-Muhallab Day were inaugurated at Kuwait National Museum. The village depicts full panorama about Kuwait's history in the 40s.
2009 -- New headquarters for the United Nations House (UN House), awarded by the Kuwaiti Government, was inaugurated in Mishref district, with attendance by His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and United Nations Secretary General Ban ki Moon. It housed offices for UN programs, agencies and international organizations, headquartered in Kuwait.
2012 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) inked a contract for renovating a water network in Lebanon's West Bekaa region, at a cost of USD 37 million.
2016 -- Festivities marking Kuwait Capital of Islamic Culture 2016 kicked off along with inauguration of the 22nd session of Al-Gurain Cultural festival.
2018 -- Kuwaiti surgeons conducted three operations to implant a coronary artery using surgical robots. The surgery was the first of its kind to be conducted in Kuwait.
2018 -- Kuwaiti and British surgeons implanted, the first time in Kuwait, a liver for a Kuwaiti patient suffering from liver cirrhosis.
2018 -- The national soccer team was crowned champion of His Highness the Amir Seventh International Shooting Tournament, garnering 10 medals, including seven gold ones.
2018 -- Kuwait Red Crescent Society distributed food to relocated people in South Sudan.
2018 -- Kuwaiti Ambassador to Tunisia Ali Ahmad Al-Dhafiri inaugurated a project for renovating schools in governorate of Siliana in the northwest of the country.
2018 -- Kuwait Oil Company won the award for the best oil exploration and production company in 2017, granted by the International Finance organization. (end) rk
