Qatar prepared to activate GCC's stalled cmtes - Qatari FM

DOHA, Jan 14 (KUNA) - Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Thani said on Monday that his country is prepared to activate the stalled committees in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The Qatari Foreign Minister noted in a press conference that his talks with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo in Doha dealt with the prospects for solutions to the Gulf crisis, renewing calls for dialogue to restore the strength of the Gulf system.
On the objectives of the visit of the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Alawi to Doha yesterday, Sheikh Mohammad said that the visit is part of the efforts by Oman to activate the committees of the GCC.
He pointed out that Qatar calls for the separation of mechanisms of joint action and differences that may arise between some States of the Council, stressing Doha continues to support this approach and not to disrupt any of the mechanisms of the Council or its committees.
Bin Alawi visited Kuwait last Wednesday, where he met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani.
During his visit to Qatar on Sunday, bin Alawi also discussed with the Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani issues of mutual interest, especially Gulf affairs. (end) nnd.aa
