Tunisians protest over bad social conditions

TUNIS, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- A number of areas in Tunisia, especially in the provinces of Kasserine, Manouba and Sfax, witnessed Tuesday protests against the bad social conditions and high cost of living, media reports said Wednesday.
A statement by the Tuisian Interior Ministry said that security forces intervened to restore the situation in some districts of Kasserine, Jebiniana and Manouba after riots in the streets.
Calm has gradually returned to these areas, where the security forces are still stationed on the spot to monitor the situation, the ministry said.
These protests coincide with the seventh anniversary of the revolution that broke out on December 17, 2011 in the city of Sidi Bouzid and led to the overthrow of the regime of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on January 14, 2011. (end) ksj.ss
