Barcelona on alert after US warns of "terrorist" attack

MADRID, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Spain's cosmopolitan city of Barcelona placed its security forces on high alert on Monday in response to US warnings over an imminent "terrorist" attack.
The US State Department has cautioned American citizens to remain wary of "terrorist threats" in the Catalan capital, specifically along its tree-lined central promenade of "La Rambla," Spanish state television reported.
Catalan police are on the lookout for a Moroccan national suspected of planning an attack in Barcelona on Christmas, following a warning by US intelligence.
In August of 2017, a young man plowed a rented van into crowds on a central Barcelona boulevard, killing 16 people and leaving more than 137 others wounded in Spain's worst attack in over a decade. (end) hnd.nam
