Iraq summons Turkish Amb. over air raids

BAGHDAD, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday summoned Turkish Ambassador in Baghdad Fatih Y?ld?z over repeated Turkish air violations of the Iraqi airspace.
The Turkish diplomat was given a message of protest in this regard, while the Iraqi ministry condemned the alleged losses of life and properties in Turkish air raids on north Iraq, according to a ministry statement.
"Such acts are considered a breach of Iraq's sovereignty, security and public safety, as well as an unacceptable act that runs counter to good neighborliness principles shared between both countries," it said.
The ministry renewed opposition to the use of Iraqi territories in carrying out acts that affect the security of neighboring and sisterly countries, the statement added.
The Turkish Army General Staff said earlier in the day that Turkish warplanes conducted airstrikes in the regions of Haftanin, Zap and Hakurk in northern Iraq. (end) ahh.mt
