White House unveils new strategy in Africa that puts 'America First'

WASHINGTON, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- The White House unveiled President Donald Trump's new Africa Strategy that is based off the "America First" notion that focuses on enhancing trade, fighting terrorism, and reducing aid programs that are deemed ineffective.
"Under the President's new Africa Strategy, we will expand economic ties on the basis of mutual respect, help African nations take control of their economic destinies and security needs, and ensure that US foreign assistance in the region gets results for the American people," Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs John Bolton tweeted on Thursday.
He said that the goal is for nations in the region to "take ownership over peace and security in their own neighborhood." "Under the Administration's new approach, every decision we make, every policy we pursue, and every dollar of aid we spend will further US priorities in the region," Bolton said.
The US sends USD 8 billion to African countries annually in which next year, when the president releases his budget, will include recommendations for changes in funding levels. (end) ak.ibi
