US strongly condemns "horrific act of terror" in Strasbourg

WASHINGTON, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- The US strongly condemned late Wednesday the "horrific act of terror" in Strasbourg, France, affirming that it remains "committed" to defeating the "global threat of terrorism." "The United States stands in solidarity with France and condemns in the strongest terms the horrific act of terror in Strasbourg," State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a statement.
The statement affirmed "we remain committed to working with France and our other allies and partners to defeat the global threat of terrorism." It stressed that "crimes that target the innocent only reinforce our shared resolve to stop these senseless attacks and those who would commit them." The statement noted that the US is "ready to provide any assistance that French officials require in this difficult time.
"US citizens should maintain security awareness and monitor media and local information sources. We also strongly encourage US citizens in Strasbourg to contact family and friends in the United States directly to inform them of their safety and whereabouts," the statement added. (end) si.hb
