Trump's ex-lawyer sentenced to 36 months in federal prison

WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump's ex-attorney Michael Cohen was sentenced Wednesday by a New York federal court to 36 months in federal prison for multiple charges against him, where he is ordered to surrender in March.
In a statement, Cohen said he takes "full responsibility for each act that I pled to: The personal ones to me and those involving the President of the United States of America." Meanwhile, Assistant US Attorney Nicholas Roos was quoted telling the courtroom on behalf of the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York that "in committing these crimes, Mr. Cohen has eroded faith in the electoral process and compromised the rule of law." In August, Cohen pleaded guilty to two campaign finance violations, five counts of tax fraud and one count of making false statements to a bank.
Last month, Cohen also pleaded guilty to a charge against him by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office for lying to Congress about Trump Tower business dealings in Moscow. (end) si
