US to work with UNSC to re-impose restrictions on Iran's activities - Pompeo

NEW YORK, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- The US will seek to work with the UN Security Council to re-impose restrictions on Iran's missile activities, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday during a speech at a UNSC session.
He stressed that his country would not accept any development of Iran's missiles that threatens the region, referring to increased risks related to Tehran's nuclear program.
Sanctions imposed on Iran's nuclear weapons should not be lifted in 2020, he said, urging the UNSC to implement inspection measures at ports and on high seas to foil Tehran's efforts aiming to violate the imploded restrictions.
Security of allies for US President is a top priority, and the US would continue building alliances with serious countries to stop Tehran's practices, he told the attendees.
Iran vowed to integrate into the international country, but still practices the same previous revolutionary goals, he made clear.
The nuclear deal provided a cover to Iran for its devastating practices in the region, he noted.
Iran, however, is not committed to the UN resolutions and supports terrorists in the world, he said, warning that some of European capitals are in the range of Iranian missiles.
Tehran has violated the UNSC resolutions through conducting new missile experiments, he affirmed, pointing out that Iran owns hundreds of missiles, which threaten allies in the region.
He said that Iran's missiles used by Yemeni Houthis pose also a threat to the region's countries.
There is evidence that Iran provide Houthis in Yemen with missiles and weapons, he stated.
In addition to supporting terrorism, Iran stirs up conflicts in Iraq and Yemen, he said.
Pompeo went to say that Iran's revolutionary guards and the Iranian regime are continuing developing missile capabilities and missile programs.
If Iran is not deterred, there will be a disaster "our nations" will be endangered as Tehran has the largest arsenal of ballistic missiles in the Middle East, he warned. (end) asf.hm
