WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- President Donald Trump signed on Tuesday the "Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act" to direct humanitarian and recovery assistance to ethnic minorities in both countries.
"The bill directs the State Department to encourage foreign governments to identify and prosecute individuals suspected of committing crimes against humanity, crimes of genocide, or war crimes, including members of foreign terrorist organizations operating in Iraq or Syria," said White House Deputy Press Secretary in a statement.
Lindsay Walters highlighted that the Trump administration remains committed to defeating the so-called Islamic State and "providing steadfast support for individuals targeted by their efforts."
The bipartisan legislation was passed unanimously in the House and Senate. (end)
