Illegal attempts by 48 migrants in Algeria thwarted

ALGIERS, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- Algerian Coast Guard on Sunday thwarted an attempt by 48 people to illegally migrate to European shores from the west coast of the country.
A statement by the coast guard that their units had prevented the illegal migrants' attempt in the early hours on Sunday morning, and 48 young people were arrested trying to reach Spanish shores.
The statement also mentioned the illegal migrants were split into two groups using wooden boats, the first sailing from the shores of Oran as the second was from the coast of Ghazaouet far west of the country.
The migrants were handed over to the competent judicial authorities and placed in custody as they await their trials. (end) mr.aq
