Trump nominates new Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff

WASHINGTON, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump announced in a tweet his nomination of Chief of Staff of the US Army Mark Milley as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
"I am pleased to announce my nomination of four-star General Mark Milley, Chief of Staff of the United States Army - as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, replacing General Joe Dunford, who will be retiring," Trump tweeted.
He added "I am thankful to both of these incredible men for their service to our Country!" He noted "date of transition to be determined." Milley had served three tours in Afghanistan and served as deputy commanding general of US forces in Afghanistan. He also served in other countries, including Iraq and Somalia.
Former President Barack Obama had nominated Dunford in 2015, where Trump last year renewed him for a second term, whose second term will end in the summer of 2019. (end) si.sd
