Four militants, one soldier killed in Jammu, Kashmir encounter

NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- Indian defence sources said on Tuesday that four militants and a trooper were killed in an exchange of fire between militants and security forces in Shopian district of north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting defence spokesman Rajesh Kalia, the Press Trust of India said that the security forces began a cordon and search operation in Nadigam area of Shopian district following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the region.
The hiding militants started firing upon the forces triggering an intense gunfight resulting in the killing of four militants.
Though the defence sources did not reveal about the casualty among army-men, a police official said an Army official was killed and two others were injured. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies. (end) atk.tg
