Trump tours wildfire-damaged areas in California

WASHINGTON, Nov 18 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump toured the damaged areas in California and met individuals affected by the wildfires that claimed 74 lives and left over 1,000 people missing.
In remarks to reporters late Saturday, Trump said that state and federal partners are working "very well" together on the fires, which he described as "this monster." He added that "what took place over the last nine days is devastating for our country, and for a great state." Trump then praised first responders, law enforcement and FEMA, which he called an "unsung hero." "I've never seen anything like that," Trump said referring to the fires. "And what we saw there wasn't as bad as some of the areas where we're not allowed to go, where we just can't go for safety reasons. Some of the areas are worse than that. And I say, how does it get worse? It's a big, big problem." He noted that responders are "in big trouble" if the winds change, reiterating that "nobody's ever seen anything like this." During his California trip, Trump also met with families of the Thousand Oaks shooting, where he said "that was a horrible, horrible event. We're going to see those families right now." Earlier this month, up to 12 people were killed and at least 10 others were wounded in the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, northwest of Los Angeles.
"This has been a tough day when you look at all of the death from one place to the next," Trump remarked.
Furthermore, Trump said in a tweet "incredible to be with our great heroes today in California. We will always be with you". (end) si.ag
