WASHINGTON, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- President Donald Trump will travel to Paris over the weekend to participate in the end of World War I 100-year celebrations and meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.
On Saturday, Trump will have a bilateral meeting with Macron to discuss issues such as Syria, threats posed by Iran, and security in Europe, a Senior White House official told reporters on a background call.
He will then visit the Belleau Wood battlefield, Suresnes American Cemetery, and have a meet and great with members of the US Embassy in Paris. That evening the president will attend a dinner hosted by Macron for the visiting heads of state.
On Sunday, Trump will participate in the WWI armistice day memorial event, followed by a lunch hosted by Macron for heads of state.
Trump will then participate at the Veterans Day ceremony at the Suresnes American Cemetery and depart back to the US at the end of the program.
No other bilateral meetings have been plan, the official noted.
The trip is a "historic opportunity to honor the sacrifices made" during the war and a "reminder of the important role that the US has played and continues to play in peace and security in Europe," the official noted. (end)
