Iran, Russia cooperation not affected by Israeli negative role - Shamkhani

TEHRAN, Nov 5 (KUNA) -- Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Monday that the Iranian-Russian relations was not affected by Israel's negative role, including its failed attempts to upset ties between Tehran and Moscow.
Iran local media quoted Shamkhani, during his meeting with Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian president's special envoy for Syria, as asserting that bilateral cooperation between Russia and Iran, which was not affected by Israeli negative role and its aggression which also failed to hinder cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.
Shamkhani asserted as well on the importance of continuing cooperation between Iran and Russia, including its support in strengthen the Syrian army and its goal to combat terrorism.
The Iranian official praised as well the transfer of its missile system (S-300) to the Syrian territories.
For his part, Lavrentiev commended Iran's "constructive" role in the political process for Syria.
Lavrentiev also stressed Moscow's commitment to fight those groups that shun the political process and continue to engage in armed activities.
Lavrentiev added Russia would however continue to work on the political channels on a parallel basis.
Lavrentiev also noted that Iran plays a "constructive role" in Syria's political process. (end) mw.mb
