Rescuer perishes in torrential rains S. Spain

MADRID, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- A firefighter died when his truck overturned due to torrential downpour in in Malaga province in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, south Spain, on Sunday.
The man was contributing to the rescue operation in the area, Spain's state TV reported tonight.
Rains and buffeting winds in Malaga and Seville forced thousands of people to flee their homes and inflicted extensive material damage to the two provinces.
Incessant rains over 12 hours left more than 400 liters of water per one square meter and hampered traffic in some towns in the region, according to the report.
Meteorologists, predicting the current depression to continue in the coming hours, urged the citizens to stay indoors and take the necessary precautions for their safety. (end) hnd.gb
