Iraq signs two MoU with Siemens, General Electric

BAGHDAD, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Sunday the signing of two separate memorandums of understanding (MoU) with Siemens and General Electric (GE) to develop the country's energy sector.
The first MoU with Siemens represented a roadmap for cooperation with the Germany company to resolve the electricity crisis in Iraq through contracts and agreements to be elaborated later, the Ministry said in a statement.
The MoU also includes the processing of new generating plants for the production of electricity and other transforming stations of different capacities, as well as improving energy transmission networks and distribution, it added.
It noted that the MoU was signed in the presence of Iraqi Electricity Minister Qassem Fahdawi, and Seimens international Executive Director Joe Kaiser.
Fahdawi signed another MoU with GE, represented by Joseph Anis, Executive Director of energy services in South Asia, Middle East and Africa, it added.
The memorandum includes support for the vision of the Iraqi government in the development of energy sector and revive the national economy through rehabilitation of a number of generating units, it said. (end) ahh.aa
