Roadside blast kills 11 people E. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- At least 11 people, including six children and a woman, were killed in a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday, said officials.
The spokesman for provincial governor, Attahullah Khogyani told media that the roadside bomb struck a vehicle in Mamand area of Achin district in Nangarhar that was carrying civilians. He confirmed that the blast destroyed the car completely, killing 11 people of a family including six children and a woman. No group has so far claimed responsibility of the attack but Achin district is a strong hold to so-called Islamic State, or Daesh.
The attack came at a time when Afghanistan's parliamentary elections were delayed and entered a second day on Sunday due to violence and technical issues. Taliban rebels, who vowed to disrupt the polling process, have disallowed people to cast their votes at four polling centers in Dara-i-Suf Paeen district of northern Samangan province after they captured the villages.
Earlier on Saturday, at least 44 people were killed and around 238 others wounded in violent incidents across Afghanistan during the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections. Afghan Interior Minister, Wais Ahmad Barmak in a statement said most of the attacks conducted on polling stations. He said the voting process were successfully done because about 1,800 incidents had been expected to be happened but only 192 were occurred following the efforts of security forces. (end) sbk.hb
