Thousands call for Brexit referendum in London

LONDON, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Thousands of people staged a mass demonstration in central London on Saturday, calling for a referendum on the final Brexit deal.
The protesters headed to the Parliament Square in a march which the organizers called the "biggest, loudest and most important" demonstration of its kind.
The organizers of the "People's Vote" campaign said the that march was attended by more than 500,000 demonstrators.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan and MPs from all the main political parties participated in the mass protest.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May has already ruled out such a referendum.
The British public voted to leave the EU by a margin of 51.89 percent to 48.11 percent in a referendum in June 2016.
The UK is scheduled to leave on 29 March 2019, under the terms of the two-year Article 50 process. (end) mrn.mt
