Trump threatens to close US-Mexican border, disrupt trade deal in response to migrant group

WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (KUNA) - - President Donald Trump threatened to close the US-Mexico border and perhaps disrupt the recent trade deal with Mexico due to two large group of migrants from Honduras that are heading towards the US border.
He also said in his Thursday morning tweets that he would stop US aid to Central American countries if the caravans are not broken up.
"In addition to stopping all payments to these countries, which seem to have almost no control over their population, I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the US Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!" Trump tweeted.
He continued, "The assault on our country at our Southern Border, including the Criminal elements and DRUGS pouring in, is far more important to me, as President, than Trade or the USMCA (US Mexico Canada Agreement). Hopefully Mexico will stop this onslaught at their Northern Border. All Democrats fault for weak laws!" The president blamed the Democrats for the "assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from, entering Mexico to US." The caravan of migrants has grown to 4,000 and the Mexican government has sent 500 additional police to its border with Guatemala, according to a report by NBC. (end) ak.ibi
