Typhoon Trami weakens after leaving 2 dead, 170 injured in Japan

TOKYO, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Powerful typhoon Trami weakened on Monday after leaving at least two people dead and over 170 others injured in Japan.
The typhoon swept through the Japanese archipelago from Sunday to Monday morning with strong winds and heavy rains and reached the Pacific before becoming an extratropical cyclone, the Meteorological Agency said on Monday.
The season's 24th typhoon also caused power blackouts at 1.3 million households throughout Japan, while airlines canceled some 250 flights.
In the Tokyo metropolitan area, East Japan Railway shut down all train services on Sunday evening and partially resumed them earlier today, affecting many morning commuters.
The weather agency said gusty winds and high waves are likely to continue in eastern and northern Japan, and warned of the possibility of mudslides and floods in the areas hit by heavy downpours. (end) mk.ag
