Egypt court sentences 20 to death for killing police officers

CAIRO, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- A court in Cairo upheld on Monday death sentences against 20 Egyptians convicted of killing 13 police officers while storming a police station in Giza.
According to Middle East News Agency (MENA), the verdict, issued by the court of appeal in Cairo, in the case, known as the "Kerdasa Incident," could not be appealed.
The court upheld a death verdict that had been issued by the Cairo Criminal Court against 20 convicts, sentenced 80 others to life behind iron bars, 34 to 15 years in prison of maximum security and a single teenager to 10 years behind the bars.
The deadly attack on the police station took place in Kerdasa district in August 2013, where the chief officer at the station, his deputy and 12 others were killed.
The attack was launched after government forces broke up major rallies by the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood organization at Rabaa Al-Adawiah and Al-Nahdah public squares in August 2013. (end) rg.aa.gaa
