KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti State Audit Bureau has reviewed its experience on environmental auditing and sustainable development at the 14th meeting of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), which opened in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi yesterday and will last until September 22.
Kuwaiti auditor, Talal Al-Wuhaib, presented a work paper entitled "Environmental Auditing on Sustainable Development", which dealt with Kuwait State Audit Bureau's experience in the implementation of regulatory processes in environmental activities, in addition to reviewing Kuwait's effective participation in risk-based auditing and auditing of partnership projects.
Al-Wuhaib said that the Kuwaiti Bureau started to implement the control operations for environmental activities through the performance management department, and issued the first report in June 2002, adding that in 2015, the Audit Bureau formed an environmental team representing all sectors for environmental supervision.
He pointed out that environmental auditing is not different from the types of control exercised by the Audit Bureau, which aims to examine and evaluate the objective and periodic environmental performance of the entities covered by the Bureau, and also aims to verify compliance with the environmental requirements of such entities.
He emphasized the increasing importance of environmental auditing and its implications at both the national and global levels.
He reviewed some of the 27 selected environmental reports in the Audit Bureau, including those related to the marine environment, air, water and sanitation.
He pointed out that the Audit Bureau has included the verification and auditing on the objectives of sustainable development in its strategic plan 2016/2020 and is currently preparing a report on evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of projects related to renewable energy, which relates to the seventh goal of sustainable development.(end).
