Islamic bloc urges end to sectarian strife

BEIRUT, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- It is imperative to rid the world of sectarianism as well as all forms of bigotry and intolerance, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League Dr. Mohammad Al-Issa said on Tuesday.
"Such virtues as tolerance and diversity help bring faiths closer together," he said after meeting with Sheikh Abdulamir Qabalan, head of the Islamic Shi'ite Council.
Meanwhile, Qabalan echoed Al-Issa's remarks, calling on Arab and Islamic leaders to engage in "constructive dialogue" to ensure that the region remains united.
The chief of the Saudi-based NGO went on to say that he was impressed with the "religious diversity" in Lebanon, giving officials there credit for much progress over interfaith harmony. (end) wsm.nam
