Al-Halbousi elected parliament speaker of Iraq

BAGHDAD, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- Iraqi lawmakers on Saturday elected Mohammad Al-Hablousi, candidate of Al-Fatah Alliance, as speaker of the parliament.
Al-Halbousi, 37, won 169 out of the 298 votes of MPs who attended the parliament session.
Former defense minister Khaled Al-Obaidi, of the Reform and Construction bloc, came second with 89 votes.
Born in Al-Anbar province in 1981, Al-Halbousi has a masters degree from Al-Muntaseriya University.
He was first elected to the parliament in 2014 and reelected in 2018 and was governor of Anbar in 2017.
Al-Halbousi's 'Anbar Is Our Identity' party is a partner in the Conquest Alliance, led by commander of Al-Hashed Al Shaabi (Popular Mobilization) Forces Hadi Al Ameri. (pickup previous) ahh.gb
