Mohamed Al-Halbusi wins parliament elections in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- Iraqi lawmakers elected on Saturday Mohamed Al-Halbusi as speaker of parliament, the first step in forming a new government after four months from the national elections.
A number of 169 lawmakers have voted for Al-Halbusi, while 89 MPs voted for former Defense Minister Khaled Al-Obeidi.
Mohamed Rikan Al-Halbusi was born in 1981 in Al-Anbar province. He was the Governor of Al-Anbar Province in 2017.
He is a member of the Al-Hal alliance. Al-Halbusi holds college degrees in Highways and Roads Engineering from Al-Mustansiriya University in Baghdad. (end) ahh.bb
