KUWAIT, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Information Mohammad Al-Jabri said Saturday UN's honorary title bestowed upon His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "humanitarian leader" was well deserved, particularly regarding Kuwait's historic philanthropy.
Al-Jabri, also Minister of State for Youth, made the remarks in a statement to KUNA, and said the title was in recognition of His Highness the Amir's humanitarian endeavors as one of the main pillars of the country's foreign policy, since he assumed command of the foreign ministry in 1963.
Al-Jabri was marking the fourth anniversary since the UN honored His Highness the Amir as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center." Al-Jabri, who is also the president of the standing committee for national celebrations, added this title was a reminder of the humanitarian suffering on this planet.
In addition to massive grants and contributions, Kuwait had hosted many international summits and donor conferences to aid the Syrian people, and to help victims of war and disasters in Iraq, Palestine, Sudan, Chad, Somalia and other countries of the world.
On September 9, 2014, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon presented, at the UN headquarters in New York, His Highness the Amir with the Global Humanitarian Leadership Award. (end) fz.mb
