Trump, Merkel discuss Syria, trade with Europe

WASHINGTON, Aug 28 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump spoke late Monday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel as they discussed issues of mutual interest including crisis resolution in Syria and improving economic relations between the US and Europe, according to White House Spokesperson Sarah Sanders.
On Syria, both leaders called for international action to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Idlib Province, and for renewed efforts to solve the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Sanders said in a statement.
On trade, the leaders expressed strong support for ongoing discussions between Washington and Brussels to remove barriers to a deeper trading relationship. (end) ak.mah
