Saudi air defenses intercept Houthi-fired ballistic missile

RIYADH, August 21 (KUNA) -- The Saudi-led pro-legitimacy in Yemen coalition announced that the Saudi Royal Air Defense forces intercepted on Tuesday a ballistic missile fired from inside Yemen towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a news conference, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki Al-Malki stated that the coalition air defense forces spotted the firing of a missile by Houthi militia from the Yemeni governorate of Imran.
The missile was launched towards a densely-populated area in the Southern Saudi city of Jizan, he said.
Al-Malki added that the Saudi Royal Air Defense forces had successfully intercepted and destroyed the missile.
No material damage or human losses were reported so far, he asserted.
This hostile act by the Houthi militia proves that the Iranian regime is still providing them with qualitative capabilities, in flagrant defiance of UNSC resolutions 2216 and 2231, with the main objective of threatening the Saudi Arabian, regional and international security, Al-Malki added.
The spokesman noted that Houthi militia had fired 179 missiles towards the Kingdom's cities so far.
Firing ballistic missiles at densely populated civilian areas was a blatant violation of the principles of the international humanitarian law, he concluded. (end) od.ibi
