Coalition seizes 50 suspected terrorists, 225 kg of explosives in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- The Coalition against so-called Islamic State arrested last week more than 50 suspected terrorists, and removed some 225 kilograms of improvised explosive devices, according to Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson Sean Ryan.
"In the Hamrin Mountains, the Iraqi Federal Police continued clearance operations that resulted in dozens of IS fighters killed and hideouts destroyed," Ryan told reporters Tuesday.
In Baghdad, Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) established central service coordination cells to all local communities to restore basic infrastructure by using military resources. While in Anbar, the ISF helped repatriate almost 400 families by ensuring they had a secure means of traveling to their homes, Ryan said.
In Raqqa, Syria, internal security forces destroyed more than 30 caches containing some 225 kilograms of explosive during clearance operations in the past weeks.
"There has been a constant stream of civilians fleeing the towns" ahead of operations to prepare for the final assault on IS in Hajin.
The Syrian Defense Force (SDF), "has provided safe passage for these civilians, while setting up checkpoints to thoroughly vet all outgoing civilians, and ensure IS is not taking advantage of the exodus. Some IS have already been caught trying to challenge the military," the spokesperson said.
Additionally, in Manbij, the electric company installed a new power grid to the eastern part of the city and are shy of having electricity 24 hours a day.
The coalition has a total of 600 foreign terrorist fighters being held from over 40 nations. (end) ak.ibi
