CAIRO, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdulfatah Al-Sisi rejected Monday a non-Arab power use Yemen to threaten security and stability, free navigation at Bab Al-Mandab Strait or the Red Sea.
Al-Sisi, at a joint news conference with his Yemeni counterpart Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, said security and stability of Yemen was not only crucial for Egypt for the entire region.
Egypt, he added, was committed to supporting stability and territorial unity of Yemen, as well as standing firmly against those who wanted to ruin the country.
Al-Sisi welcomed UN Secretary General special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths' efforts to resume negotiations between the Yemeni parties in line with UN resolutions, the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism as well as outcome of national dialogue.
He called on Arab countries to unite against challenges facing the Yemeni people.
Al-Sisi said he and Hadi discussed security and political implications of the crisis in Yemen, how could Egypt contribute to the political solution and alleviating suffering of the Yemeni people.
Hadi thanked Egypt for hosting tens of thousands of Yemeni people, who were forced to flee their country due to the conflict.
He said he and Sisi discussed threats posed by the Houthis against navigation in the Red Sea.
Following their meeting, the two countries signed a cooperation memorandum between central banks. (end) esm.bs
