NEW YORK, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres informed the UN General Assembly on Wednesday of his intention to appoint Chilean ex-president Michelle Bachelet as the next UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The UN chief made the statement following consultations with the chairs of regional groups of Member States on a replacement to Prince Zeid Raad Al Hussein, of Jordan, whose term in office expires in September 2018.
Bachelet served as president of Chile twice (2006-2010 and 2014-2018).
