Greek PM takes political responsibility for wildfires

ANKARA, July 27 (KUNA) -- Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced on Friday his full political responsibility, towards the government and people, for the wildfires disaster that broke out recently in the cities of Attica and Kineta, western Athens, killing dozens of people.
The government is currently going through its most difficult moments and periods, and, therefore, would never ever attempt to escape from its responsibility, Tsipras said during a Cabinet meeting, monitored by media in Ankara.
There is a great deal of pain for losing human lives unexpectedly and unfairly, he added, expressing his concern whether his government acted correctly towards what was expected from it in facing the tragedy.
Meanwhile, Greek health ministry reported today the death toll from wildfires in the country has increased to 87.
Nearly 86 autopsies had been performed, Nikos Karakoukis, head of the Athens coroner service, said, according the ministry's statement.
Karakoukis added that a 62-year-old man, who was receiving treatment at Athens' Evangelismos hospital, succumbed to his injuries. (end) rs.ma
