EU approves new assistance for Syrian refugees in Turkey

BRUSSELS, July 25 (KUNA) -- The European Commission Wednesday approved a new assistance package worth 400 million euro (USD 467 million) for the education of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
This is the first action adopted following the recent agreement by EU Member States to finance an additional 3 billion euro (USD 3.5 billion) for the EU Facility for Refugees in Turkey, the European Commission said in a press release.
The 400 million euro will be given in the form of a direct grant to the Turkish Ministry of National Education of Turkey. The EU Facility for Refugees in Turkey was set up in 2015. It has a total budget of 6 billion euro (USD 7 billion) for projects including humanitarian and non-humanitarian actions, three billion euro for 2016-2017 and three billion euro for 2018-2019.(end) nk.tg
