Russia, US discuss developments in Syria

MOSCOW, July 21 (KUNA) -- The foreign ministers of Russia and the US on Saturday discussed possible bilateral cooperation on resolving the humanitarian situation in Syria, according to Moscow, amid a conflict that has exceeded seven years.
Talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US State Secretary Mike Pompeo also delved into responsibilities pertaining to nuclear disarmament in the Korean peninsula, according to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement.
Both sides considered developing bilateral relations on the basis of parity and mutual benefit after their recent leaders' summit held in Helsinki.
Speaking to his US counterpart, Lavrov underlined the need to release Russian national, Maria Butina, who Washington is currently holding captive under accusations of espionage. (end) as.sd
