EP seeks closer ties with Algeria

BRUSSELS, July 20 (KUNA) -- A seven-member delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, led by Chairman David McAllister, concluded a 3-day visit to Algeria Friday.
They met in Algeria the Prime Minister, the Foreign and Interior ministers, the President of the People's National Assembly among others, the EP Committee said in a statement today.
During the visit, they had "fruitful discussions on the political, socio-economic situation of the country, but also on the security and stability of the region", it said.
"Algeria plays an important stabilizing role in the region and we should continue our cooperation on security as well as on fighting terrorism and radicalization," said McAllister.
This visit follows the setting up of the EU-Algeria Joint Parliamentary Committee and shows the commitment of the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee to reinforce political dialogue with Algeria, he added. (end) nk.gta
