Astronomer: Longest Moon eclipse in century occurs on July 27

KUWAIT, July 19 (KUNA) -- On July 27, the world will witness the longest Moon eclipse in this century, said Kuwaiti astronomer and researcher Adel Al-Saadoon in a statement on Thursday for KUNA.
Al-Saadoon said that the Moon will start its partial eclipse at 21:24, and the Moon would be fully eclipsed at 22:30. "The full duration of the eclipse would be an hour and 43 minutes, it is considered the longest in the century," Al-Saadoon added.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow, this can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and the Moon are aligned (in syzygy) exactly or very closely so, with the planet in between.
