GENEVA, July 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim, said on Thursday that the humanitarian work carried out by the State of Kuwait is highly appreciated by the presidents and directors of the UN organizations and other relevant international bodies.
This came in a statement by Al-Ghunaim to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) after the completion of discussions of plans for Kuwaiti participation in the programs of the International Organization for Migration, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to deal with the Yemeni crisis.
He pointed out that the State of Kuwait, in cooperation with these international humanitarian organizations, aims to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people such as the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to alleviate the cholera epidemic and to rehabilitate and rebuild the health structure in Yemen and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Agriculture sector aimed to alleviate impacts of hunger through developing the agriculture sector.
Kuwait also cooperates with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in tackling the negative humanitarian impact in the areas of conflict, together with the UN Refugee Agency and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in dealing with the impact of migration and displacement in Yemen.
Ambassador Al-Ghunaim noted that these international organizations pay tribute to the State of Kuwait's keenness to respond quickly to urgent humanitarian appeals and its keenness to fulfill its commitments, either through direct contact with organizations or through conferences organized to urge donors to contribute to alleviating the scale of the Yemeni crisis.
Al-Ghunaim added that these Kuwaiti participations come in accordance with the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and in the framework of the pledge made by the State of Kuwait to the Yemen Support Conference called for by the United Nations last April at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
He stressed that Kuwait hopes that this support will contribute to alleviating the humanitarian suffering and the shortage of humanitarian needs facing the brothers in Yemen of imminent hunger, increasing needs and infrastructure destroyed by the conflict.
Ambassador Al-Ghunaim added that the support of the brothers in Yemen confirms the role of the State of Kuwait in leading international humanitarian efforts throughout the world in cooperation with international humanitarian organizations and stems from the role of the State of Kuwait as a center for humanitarian action.(end).
