Turkey lifts two-year-old state of emergency

ANKARA, July 19 (KUNA) -- Turkey lifted its two-year-old state of emergency on Thursday for the seventh time due to a failed coup attempt in mid of July 2016, said local media.
According to Anadolu Agency (AA), the government declared a state of emergency for the first time on July 20, 2016 for three months following a deadly coup attempt orchestrated by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and its leader Fetullah Gulen who si residing in the US.
It added that to enact a state of emergency, the government must foresee serious indications of widespread violence which may interfere with the democratic environment or basic constitutional rights and freedoms of its citizens.
The European Parliament and the United Nations (UN) have welcomed Turkey's call for lifting the state of emergency. (end) rs.gaa
