NEW YORK, July 19 (KUNA) -- A delegation from the Kuwaiti State Audit Bureau (SAB), headed by Acting President Adel Abdulaziz Al-Sarawi, participated in a high-level panel discussion on the experiences of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) in implementing the goals of sustainable development and their implications for the future organized by the Austrian and Canadian missions to the United Nations and the INTOSAI Secretariat.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the chief auditor of the performance control department, Sultan Al-Otaibi told KUNA that the event was held on the sidelines of the second meeting organized by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
He added that the seminar discussed the contribution of supervisory bodies in the 2030 agenda of the goals of sustainable development effectively, transparently and responsibly.
He pointed out that the supreme institutions of financial supervision are pillars of development and an important source of information on the gains of development and progress towards sustainable development goals.
He said the supreme audit institutions contribute to maintaining financial sustainability by monitoring public spending and providing information on the performance of development programs.
He pointed out that through their audits, they can monitor progress and identify improvements and positive points.
Al-Otaibi pointed to the central role of the Supreme Audit Institutions to achieve the goals of sustainable development by enhancing accountability, transparency and good leadership, especially after they were recognized by the UN General Assembly resolutions of 2011 and 2014.(end).
