Iraqi gov't approves appropriations to improve services in Basra

BAGHDAD, July 17 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi government approved Tuesday appropriations to improve services and activate economic activities in southern Basra governorate, in a bid to honor demands of protesters.
The government will allocate proceeds from Basra oil sales and southern borders to implement services projects in the city, a statement by the cabinet said.
The council of ministers also decided to launch fresh water projects by end of August, using the loans to execute strategic ventures, as well as forming a crisis cell to follow the services and security conditions in Basra.
The southern city has been witnessing protests to demand better services and jobs. (end) ahh.bs
