EU to discuss global challenges in summits with China and Japan

BRUSSELS, July 15 (KUNA) -- The European Union-China Summit will take place in Beijing tomorrow, Monday to discuss the expansion of the EU-China strategic relationship on trade, global challenges, and foreign and security issues.
The two sides are expected to discuss recent developments, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Iran and the nuclear deal, Syria, Russia/Ukraine, North Korea and Africa, according to an EU press release.
The EU-Japan summit in Tokyo on Wednesday will sign a free trade agreement and the EU-Japan strategic partnership agreement.
The two sides are also expected to address regional and international issues such as the Middle East, Iran nuclear deal, Syria, Ukraine and North Korea. The EU-Japan summit was originally planned to be held in Brussels last week but was rescheduled to the floods in Japan. At both summits, the EU will be represented by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
The summit in Beijing will be hosted by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. The EU leaders will also hold talks with President Xi Jinping of China.
Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe host the summit in Tokyo with the EU. (end) nk.tg
